Receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time is an important time in the life of a Catholic. Pupils are typically offered the opportunity to receive the sacrament in Year 4. However, each parish within Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust has its own arrangements for the provision of First Holy Communion and further details can be found on parish websites and from schools directly.
Traditionally, girls wear white dresses and boys wear white shirts and red ties for the celebration Mass. In order to assist parents, BWCET have a range of First Holy Communion dresses and accessories which are available to borrow free of charge. A ‘pop-up shop’ is opened on a Saturday during the spring term for children to visit to try on outfits and take them away for their special day.
